Two Days 'til We Go Swimming!

Two more days ’til the big day! The latest weather reports call for a mostly sunny day with a high around 40 degrees in Annapolis. Whatever it ends up being, we’ll be there wearing our swimming suits starting at 10:30 AM!

There’s still time to join us on Saturday for CCAN’s Fifth Annual Polar Bear Plunge. You can take the plunge, or just show your support from the sidelines.

If you’re coming, here’s what you need to know:

Directions
: The plunge is being held on the beach of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Annapolis and the program begins at 10:30 AM. The address is 6 Herndon Ave. You can view a map and get directions by going to http://bit.ly/plungemap.

Carpooling: We encourage people to carpool as much as possible. We’ve created a blog post on the keepwintercold.org website where people can offer spaces in your car and people who need a ride can ask for one. Access this service here.

Last Saturday, activists, politicians, dogs and musicians alike took the 4th annual Polar Bear Plunge in Annapolis. I woke up on Sunday morning with a great laugh when I saw this video of all of all of us screaming and running into the Bay (you can see more of the fun in these photos). Many thanks to everyone who participated–despite dire weather warnings–and made donations.

Have a favorite plunger, but didn’t donate? There’s still time to give! If you need a favorite plunger, pick me! Here’s my page: http://tinyurl.com/8qypum. And here’s proof that I plunged!

Planning on driving to the plunge?

If you’re planning on driving to the plunge, please consider offering a space in your car to another plunger. There are several people who need rides from the DC area to Annapolis. Please go to ERideshare and post your ride!

How to find or post a ride:

1. Sign up for an account at http://plunge09.erideshare.com/
2. Enter code “ccan”
3. Post a ride or a ride request
4. View rides, ride requests that are already offered

Join us at the Plunge!

On January 10, CCAN is hosting our 4th Annual Polar Bear Plunge. About 200 of us are going to jump in the Chesapeake Bay and freeze our butts off for climate action.

The Polar Bear Plunge is CCAN’s major grassroots fund-raising event. Just like a walk for cancer, the day’s plungers recruit friends and family to sponsor them. We’ve made it easy by putting together email templates and personal fundraising pages that people can use to do outreach. Anyone who signs up will be given the support they need to have a successful plunge. Sign up to take the plunge with us!

Check out a short video of what happened at last year’s plunge. It’s very inspiring.

We're jumping in the Bay tomorrow!

blogad_find.pngAnd it’s gonna be cold. And wet probably. But definitely worth it. This’ll be my third year in a row taking the plunge. I get nervous the night before each plunge. So far, though, I’ve managed to come out okay. Having other people plunging in with you really makes a difference. And this year, with over 200 people jumping and twice that much expected, I’ll have lots of company.

PJ Park from Mt. Rainer
is going to be there. He and two others will be arriving by bike – 32 miles there and 32 miles back.

If you’re not up for riding your bike to Annapolis, but would like to cut down on your carbon footprint, why not consider carpooling. Check out our carpool message board here.
