Georgetown Patch

Stoddert Elementary School teacher Steve Dingledine plunged into the icy waters of the Potomac River at National Harbor as part of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network’s (CCAN) 8th annual Polar Bear Plunge Saturday.

Dingledine, known at Stoddert as “Mr. D,” was one of 169 dedicated fundraisers listed on the event website.

According to the CCAN explanation of the event, “Our mission is to build and mobilize a powerful grassroots movement in this unique region that surrounds our nation’s capital to call for state, national and international policies that will put us on a path to climate stability.”

“Mr. D” has done the plunge previously and is known for taking the extra step for a good cause. Each year he is an auction item at the Big Chili event: parents can bid for their child to throw a pie in his face at the end of the year.

Though the event is over, you can still support his fundraising effort by donating here: www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/Dingledine/keep-winter-cold-2013.
