Virginians Launch Week of Pickets at Dominion’s Richmond Offices over $76 Million Rip-Off

Several hundred Virginians will sustain six days of pickets to call on Dominion to earn its renewable energy bonus through Virginia-made solar and wind power—a demand backed up by new poll data

RICHMOND—Today dozens of concerned Virginians launched a full week of picketing at Dominion Virginia Power’s Richmond offices to protest what they have dubbed “Dominion’s $76 Million Rip-off.” Customers are denouncing a $76 million bonus that Dominion is claiming from customers under the state’s voluntary renewable energy goal—despite bringing zero wind or solar power to Virginia.

ODEC Puts Plans for Coal Plant On Ice
Clean energy groups rejoice but vow to stay vigilant

Dendron, Va. — On behalf of thousands of Virginians who opposed plans for what would have been one of the state’s biggest polluting power plants, the Wise Energy for Virginia Coalition today rejoiced at news that Old Dominion Electric Cooperative is suspending plans for its proposed coal plant in Hampton Roads.

Coalition member groups said they hope to work with ODEC to implement programs and projects that provide cleaner, more affordable and climate-friendly sources of energy for its customers, but pledged to keep a close eye on the utility to ensure it does not revive the coal plant idea in the future.
