Clean Energy -- Not New Coal -- For Virginia

COOLING THE COMMONWEALTH
Out with the Coal, in with the Renewable Energy.
Dominion Virginia Power's plan to build another coal-fired power plant in Wise County will accelerate global warming, mountaintop removal mining, the construction of new transmission lines, and the poisoning of our air and water.
CCAN has joined a coalition of citizen and conservation groups in a major effort to say NO to Dominion's plans to build a new coal-fired power plant in Wise County, Va. This plant will emit over 5.6 million tons of carbon dioxide every year and cost $1.6 billion (yes, billion!). Virginia needs to invest in clean renewable energy, not new coal! The coalition plan to present the utility with a mile-long petition at its 2008 shareholders meeting.
CLEAN, RENEWABLE ENERGY
Clean renewable energy can help clean the air, cool the climate, and keep the economy rolling. But we need your help! Read on to see how you can make a difference in the fight against global warming. CCAN is pushing to bring clean energy and green jobs to the commonwealth, and we need your help.
VIRGINIA IS AT RISK
Virginia is one of the most vulnerable states in the US to global warming. More global warming means more sea level rise, more heat related illness and death, more severe weather. With 3,300 miles of shoreline, Virginia is exceptionally vulnerable. There is a better way. More global warming will also wreak havoc on much of our regional wildlife.
