Virginia Students Fight for the Climate
The Chesapeake Climate Action Network works with high school and college student groups throughout the commonwealth to combat global warming and promote clean energy. Campaigns have focused on collecting pledges naming climate change and clean energy as key election issues, fighting local coal plants, and rallying support for clean energy legislation at the state level.
Energy Action Coalition & Power Shift
CCAN is an active partner in the Energy Action Coalition, a group of 50 youth-led environmental and social justice groups working together to build the youth clean energy and climate movement. Working with hundreds of campus and youth groups, dozens of youth networks, and hundreds of thousands of young people, Energy Action Coalition and its partners have united a burgeoning movement behind winning local victories and coordinating on state, regional, and national levels in the United States and Canada.
During the weekend of April 15-18, 2011, Energy Action Coalition held Power Shift 2011, the largest youth grassroots training conference ever held. Following the success of prior Power Shift conferences in 2007 and 2009, the event brought some of the biggest names in the climate change movement to Washington, D.C. to address thousands of the nation’s best and brightest student climate activists and inspire them to action.
