Virginia Campaigns

In 2007, Virginia passed a voluntary Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) (§ 56-585.2) with the aim of making Virginia’s air and water cleaner and reducing the commonwealth’s emissions of greenhouse gases. Unfortunately, to date, the RPS has not had its intended effect.

Virginia boasts a tremendous renewable energy resource: offshore wind. The Chesapeake Climate Action Network is working with other Virginia environmental groups to encourage Dominion Virginia Power and Governor McDonnell to work together to bring offshore wind energy development to the commonwealth.

Right now, a Virginia electric cooperative is considering building a massive new coal-fired power plant just 32 miles from the Chesapeake Bay in Surry County, Virginia.

Let's make Virginia a leader in offshore wind, not oil!
