Maryland students- represent!

This was a bang up week of action and recognition for students across Maryland. To start off the week on the 30th, students from MICA assembled to demonstrate against Mountain Top Removal. They performed a skit on the destruction of MTR, gathered petition signatures, then marched to constellation energy!

The very next day, Zoe Keller from MICA and Zainab Boone-Kukoyi from Coppin State spoke on behalf of students at the rally in Baltimore against the proposed power lines that would bring in coal energy to Maryland. As Zoe said: “Maryland’s leaders, remember, as youth we are informed, we are loud, we are VOTERS and we will hold you accountable if you do not create a clean energy future for this state!”
Finally, young climate leaders from across the country gathered in the White House on December 2nd for the Clean Energy Economy Forum. The fact that high level people such as EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis met with us, answered questions, and were impressed with our movement was pretty mind boggling amazing. I was honored to go and felt a responsibility to represent all of the dedicated, determined, and passionate Maryland students I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Our President is listening- so we must keep talking!
It was a pretty fantastic week.
