Do you want to fight global warming while gaining valuable grassroots organizing knowledge and experience? If yes, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network has the perfect internship for you. We are currently hiring interns for the spring semester to work out of our Takoma Park and Richmond offices.
For ten years, CCAN has been working in Maryland, Virginia, and DC to fight climate change by standing up to polluters and working to pass clean energy policies. We’ve made a lot of progress, but still have a long way to go and we need your help! Bill McKibben called CCAN “the best regional climate organization in the world.” Apply for an internship with us today!
Clean-Energy Interns will:
• Help recruit and work with volunteer leaders to implement grassroots campaign tactics
• Conduct campaign related research as needed
• Write and publish blog posts and letters to the editor in support of the campaign
• Learn to plan, organize and execute campaigns, campaign events and creative actions
• Participate in community outreach such as collecting petition signatures, door to door canvassing, tabling at events and other field work
• Have an amazing opportunity to learn grassroots campaigning skills from an organization that climate activist Bill McKibben has called the “best regional climate organization in the world.”
Ideal candidates will possess:
• Excitement to educate, train and motivate our grassroots members (experience with grassroots organizing is preferred)
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong research and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently
• Outstanding attention to detail, and ability to meet goals under deadline and work in a fast paced environment
• Comfort with public speaking
• A sense of humor, and a friendly positive attitude
• A deep commitment to clean energy and the fight against climate change
• Blogging experience and social-media skills (preferred)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• A car and good driving record
The position requires a commitment of at least 20 hours/week, which will be a mixture of days, evenings (6-8PM) and weekends depending on campaign activities. The position requires significant travel throughout Maryland or Virginia, so candidates with their own vehicles are preferred.
Start Date: January 9th 2012
End Date: May 1st, 2012 (negotiable)
Compensation: Field travel reimbursement will be provided
To apply: Please submit a one-page resume detailing your relevant experience and a separate one-page cover letter no later than Dec. 16th 2011. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Please email materials as Microsoft Word attachments to Megan Jenny at: megan(at)chesapeakeclimate(dot)org. Supplemental writing samples in the form of letters to the editor, blogs or other advocacy documents are encouraged.
Successful applicants will be contacted to arrange an interview.
