Flammable tap water: coming to a sink near you?

Never before have the stakes been so high for Maryland and Montgomery County when it comes to clean-versus-harmful energy. Is our General Assembly, meeting now in Annapolis, going to make us a national leader in offshore wind power? Are they going to heed appeals to delay and perhaps ban forever the harmful practice of natural gas fracking in Maryland?

Please sign-up below to attend an emergency Montgomery County citizens forum in Rockville on Tuesday night March 6th at 7:30 pm to learn more firsthand.

What will you hear at this forum? First: a vital update on Gov. Martin O’Malley’s historic Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2012. The bill would create 1,500 jobs and keep more than half a million tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere per year. But fossil fuel interests are gearing up to kill the bill. What will stop them? You! Me! Grassroots Maryland! Come to the March 6th meeting and learn what you can do.

Meanwhile, we’ll also update you on efforts to delay and potentially ban forever in Maryland the harmful gas drilling practice known as hydraulic “fracking.” Gov. O’Malley last year established a temporary statewide ban on fracking to allow a special commission to study the harmful impacts of such drilling by August 2014. Unfortunately, the commission has no funding to do its work! So a crucial bill must be passed this year by the General Assembly to fund the commission to examine all possible impacts, including harm to the climate from methane pollution.
